What Is the Cause of Heartburn? | Heartburn Home Remedy

What Is the Cause of Heartburn?

If you’ve ever experienced heartburn, you know what it is. And if you are visited by heartburn frequently, like I was most of my life, then you have more than likely come across a home remedy or two in your efforts to function with this very annoying curse.

Heartburn, or acid reflux (heartburn may be considered a symptom of acid reflux, depending on who you ask), is a burning in the chest or bottom of the throat that seems to rise up, like a wave, and happens because stomach acid becomes backed up in the esophagus, which moves food downward, from your mouth towards your stomach. If stomach acid flows back into the esophagus (which could be the result of a faulty valve, called the lower esophageal sphincter, which connects the esophagus and stomach), it will cause this nasty burning sensation.

I have gotten very used to going everywhere with a bottle full of baking soda and water, which works phenomenally, by the way. Of course, it has a taste that you will probably never quite acquire a liking for, and doesn’t work for long, usually, if your heartburn is at all what you would consider “chronic”.

So, it makes sense to me that if something is such an issue for you that you would have to resort daily to mixing up a large bicarbonate cocktail to carry around with you to get you through the day comfortably, then you should maybe consider what the cause might be, and deal with that. Yes, pretty ingenious, right?! I should get a medal for thinking of such a brilliant idea, after a mere 35 years of living with chronic heartburn!

So. Other than a failing lower esophageal sphincter (Heh-heh. Heh.), what is the cause of heartburn (or causes, likely)?

Well… I am pretty certain that mine was always rooted in lower back issues I’ve had since I was very young, coupled with eating like I hadn’t eaten for a week and

food was going out of style. You have to chew your food, evidently.

But next to these two things, the main cause of heartburn is nearly always going to be what you are eating or drinking.

A List of Foods That Cause Heartburn

Many pharmaceutical medications can cause heartburn, as well as tobacco, smoking and being overweight or pregnant.

Foods and beverages that are acidic or high in fat, or spicy foods (especially eaten quickly and/or in large quantities) will also be fundamental causes.

Here is a list of foods that cause heartburn:

  • High-fat foods, like cheese, nuts, avocados, pizza, fried foods…
  • Mint
  • Chocolate
  • Foods or beverages high in citrus
  • Onions
  • Salt
  • Spicey spices
  • Coffee
  • Alcohol (yes, that’s a food)
  • Carbonated beverages
  • Creamy sauces, dips and dressings
  • And, perhaps contrary to what one might think… Milk (due to its lactic acid content, moreso if the milk is not entirely fresh).

How to Alleviate Heartburn / Foods That Help Heartburn

Some foods that help heartburn, or at least aid slightly in the prevention of it, are potatoes, ginger, melons, veggies, oatmeal, and grains. But where heartburn alleviation and food are concerned, it is more preventative things that should be considered and practiced.

There are commercial medications, such as Nexium that can be effective in controlling heartburn/acid reflux, but it is a terrible drug, and I would only consider taking anything like it if there was a gun to my head, and after putting into practice the natural methods I am mentioning here.

Here is a very good article about these drugs, and why to avoid them (This article also lists some natural things you can take that I have not listed here).

If these methods don’t work, then you likely should be looking at probable root causes, which the fixing of could eliminate your symptoms more permanently.

As I mentioned above, I am certain that the fundamental culprits for me have always been eating too fast and back trouble. If you would like to know how to alleviate heartburn without spending money on over-the-counter or prescription medication, there are definitely other things to look at.

My Go To Heartburn Home Remedy

Here’s one great heartburn home remedy, which I would say is the heartburn home remedy of heartburn home remedies. If you know your condition is a result of chronic back trouble or some other chronic condition, and you are doing all the other preventative things, try soda bicarbonate (baking soda and water). This works like magic, if you can get used to the taste, and know that it is a quick and temporary means of relief.

My father used to take garlic tablets regularly, and it did wonders for his heartburn, apparently. I’m not going to spend any time advocating that, however. I seem to recall trying it for a while and it didn’t seem to do much, other

than cause me to smell like a garlic processing plant, from a mile away. I know, because I coughed while walking by a buzzard happily perched on the edge of a manure wagon, and he fainted and fell to the ground.

I’m certain that happened at least once… but then again, it was a really long time ago… ;P

Here is a GREAT resource to strongly consider

dead turkey vultureThe Bottom Line:

Adjusting your diet and eating habits will be key to helping you to reduce your need for antacids (which, I forgot to mention, can have bad long term effects on your health with prolonged use) and can reduce your heartburn symptoms, considerably.

Eating more slowly, and avoiding (or at least limiting your consumption of) food and drink with high contents of fat, sugar, citrus and other acidic things (oh yeah, tomato juice and sauce are very bad), as well as carbonated beverages, coffee and alcohol, etc. will be a big step towards a heartburn-free existence.

You should also be very deliberate in considering any other bad habits you might have that would contribute, and changing or eliminating them. These could include bad posture or eating while not sitting completely upright, or eating right before going to bed. Also, drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes are bad. But don’t worry. Shooting heroin, driving too fast without a seat belt and swearing are all still okay, as far as not contributing to heartburn/acid reflux.

Other considerations would include back issues, improperly functioning lower esophageal sphincter (which could be caused by the back issue, it would seem to me) and being pregnant.

If you are pregnant, congratulations! Get some baking soda, and consider naming it after me (the baby, not the baking soda). It would mean a lot, seriously.

Cheers,

What Is Alternative Health Care? | Maintaining Natural Health

What Is Alternative Health Care?

Alternative health / natural health care is a system of therapies, remedies, and preventative methods which are found in nature, and work with the built-in restorative powers of the human body to restore and maintain health and wellness. It utilizes forms of healing which take into account the whole person’s mind, body and emotions for the purpose of bringing balance and harmony to his or her life.

With alternative health care (a term we will cease to use after this article–I will explain why in the next section) an individual is not taking a dose of medication to cure a symptom of an ailment, but will examine his/her whole person, and lifestyle factors such as diet, stress, sleep habits, and other factors will be considered, and a person is allowed to assess himself as a whole human being, and not just be seen as a disease.

Why Is It Called “Alternative”?flowers and tincture bottle

As stated above, we will not use this word, “alternative” after this, and here is why:

Nature was here first.

And like everything else, man decided he could do it better, and capitalize on it, to boot! And WOW, did he ever!

I could write a whole book on this, but I’m sure several other people already have…

So, what is alternative health care? By the above rationale, turning to the pharmaceutical industry is an alternative to any natural way to care for your health. From here on in, we’ll refer to it as “natural” health care.

Physical exercise, eating natural whole foods, stress management techniques, nutritional supplements, natural medicines or therapies are all elements of natural healthcare, or what we call “true health and wellness”. As difficult as it has gotten, it is more crucial now than ever before to practice true health and wellness.

Who Is Big Pharma?

This is going to be difficult for me talk about delicately or diplomatically, but I’ll do my best.I became more passionate about true health and wellness as I had grown more and more aware of how little the pharmaceutical industry is about health and wellness, and how much it is about using people’s infirmities to build a colossal empire. Aside from the fact that the “Big Pharma” machine is largely responsible for opioid addiction in North America, these huge drug empires, such as Johnson and Johnson and Pfizer have been involved in a long list of unethical practices, including illegal marketing practices and unethical drug testing and contamination issues, product safety, and marketing and safety violations, as well as foreign corrupt practices and government contract violations, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in fines (little more than a mere annoyance to them). You can see their rap sheet and those of many other contemptible corporations destroying health and lives for profit (like Monsanto), on this website.

Pfizer is known to test experimental drugs on Nigerian children, killing many of them and causing permanent brain damage, organ failure and other side effects on those who survive. This is just one of a very large list of atrocities by just one of these many companies regularly accused of bribery, environmental violations, labor and worker safety violations and much more.

“Pfizer is demanding countries put up sovereign assets, including bank reserves, military bases and embassy buildings, as collateral for expected vaccine injury lawsuits resulting from its COVID-19 inoculation…”

There is a ton of information out there on this subject, and you can look into it for yourself. I just wanted to illustrate one of the main reasons I decided to become an advocate for natural wellness online.

Why Natural Health Care?

Besides the growing concern over the practices of big pharmaceutical companies and their research methods, there are other reasons why natural health care is becoming so popular:

    • People like to know they are looking after their own health, and know what they are putting in their bodies
    • A growing disenchantment with drugs and “conventional” medicine
    • A desire for remedies that come from nature, not toxic or synthesized chemicals
    • People want to know they are working with their bodies, nurturing the body’s built-in healing ability
    • It seeks to identify an underlying cause for the symptoms experienced
    • It encourages the promotion of sustainable, continued health and prevention of disease
    • Natural healthcare looks at the whole person and not just a particular disease
    • Unlike pharmaceutical medicine, natural health does not aim to keep you on its hamster wheel of sickness, or to kill old people, whom it sees as a burden on the system
    • About 100,000 people a year die from side effects of prescription drugs that were legally and correctly prescribed, and taken properly.

Let Us Hear the Conclusion of the Whole Matter:

Un-Pharma.com is dedicated to promoting true, natural health and wellness products and information, for reasons I have tried to make plain in this article. I aim to promote a balance of important, relevant and current information, and products which have been tested, are safe, natural and effective, and that I either do or would use myself.

glass of water with lemon and herbs

If you have an ailment or a health condition, there is something in nature created to resist it. But like everything else, there will be schemes and scams, and someone distorting and exploiting it for their own benefits, or passing something off as the real thing, which is not genuine.

Or else the “powers that be” will strive to hide it or discredit it, because it threatens their empire, and thus, their ego.

My goal and function with Un-Pharma.com is going to be to stay abreast of these things, and bring you products and information to help you to learn and discern, and ultimately help you to put your health and well being back into your hands, and not blindly being manipulated into poverty and chronic sickness, which was never your lot in life!

Thanks for coming by. I know that it was no accident that brought you.

Blessings to you!
