What to Use Peppermint Oil For

In this article, we will discuss what to use peppermint oil for, and all of the many excellent benefits of peppermint oil.

I am so excited about my latest discovery, I decided I just had to share it with all of you.

Using Peppermint Oil For Heartburn

As I have probably mentioned, I suffer from acid reflux and thus heartburn. I was prescribed Nexium, but after several years I began experiencing adverse side effects. I changed to a regimen of enzymes, omega-3, and probiotics,  which seems to do the trick. However, suddenly in the last few months the painful malady has resurfaced occasionally.

Not long ago I read that peppermint oil was a fail-safe remedy. So I felt compelled to give it a try. I mixed several drops of peppermint essential oil with a cup of coconut oil as a carrier. The next time I felt the old familiar burning sensation creeping up I was prepared. I applied the mixture on my skin from my breastbone down a line to my waist. After a short while, to my delight, the burning sensation dissipated. I have repeated this procedure four or five times since and it has been successful each time.

OK, so then I knew that my next research project had to be peppermint oil and here is the result.

Peppermint Herb Health Benefits

The peppermint plant, a natural cross between water mint and spearmint, grows throughout Europe and North America and contains over forty different compounds. Both the essential oil (taken from the leaves and flowers of the plant), and the leaves themselves, are used for health purposes. Similar to countless other natural cures and medicinal plants, it has been used thus for thousands of years.

Currently this oil is promoted for irritable bowel syndrome, other digestive problems (like my acid reflux), the common cold, sinus infections, headaches, muscle aches, joint pain, itching, and stress reduction. Shall we dig deeper?

But now for the inevitable disclaimers:

Enteric-coated peppermint oil is safe to take internally but it is not recommended ingesting the pure essential oils. When applied topically it should be mixed with a carrier oil, as mentioned above. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and other sensitive areas. The menthol in this oil can cause side effects in children, so it should not be applied straight to their skin, or inhaled or ingested.

The bottom line is simple: Use this oil for a myriad of things, just use it sensibly.

  1. THANK FOR THE GREAT LIST OF USES FOR PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL.
As a teenager I recall our family frequently gathering in the evening kitchen to make and share a cup of peppermint tea. Two drops and a bit of honey in hot water. What fun and family memories!

Now, I have learned that would have been better in the morning as a wake-me-up drink. Oh well, our very scheduled bedtime and early rising ON TIME, helped us get great rest and awaken bright and cheery each morning.
I have lots for which to be thankful. Peppermint tea is just ONE of them.
